Anne Bonny was an Irish woman who became a famous pirate. She was born on March 8, 1802 as Anne Cormic in Kinsale County Cork, Ireland. Official records and contemporary letters dealing with her life were scarce and most modern knowledge stemmed from Charles Johnson’s A General History of the Pyrates. Her family travelled to the new world very early in her life; at first, they had a rough start in their new home. Her mother died shortly after they arrived in North America and her father attempted to establish himself as an attorney but didn’t do well, so he joined the more profitable merchant business, accumulating a substantial fortune. It was recorded she had red hair and was considered a “good catch” but might have had a fiery temper; at age thirteem she supposedly stabbed a servant with a table knife.
